FIS Snowboard World Cup to be held on Rogla for the fifth consecutive year
This year, Rogla (and Slovenia) will once more become a snowboard capital that shall host the best snowboarders in the world, who will battle it out at the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Parallel Giant Slalom on Rogla on Saturday, 28 January 2017.
According to both the International Ski Federation (SKI), local and foreign public, the event has been a resounding success every single time. For the fifth time in a row, Rogla's team plans to organise the entire event without a glitch.
Last year, the intense men's competition was won by the Russian competitor Andrej Soboljev, whereas the overall winner of the women's competition was the Czech competitor Ester Ledecka. Slovenian snowboarders also performed extremely well – Rok Marguč, who achieved his personal best of the season after changing the equipment provider, ended up sixth, and Tim Mastnak eighth. This year's list of Slovenian competitors will include also Gloria Kotnik, Iva Polanec and Rok Flander, the latter finishing his lengthy and successful career at this particular event in front of his local fans.
Slovenian snowboarders have an excellent vantage point, as the Jasa ski run, where the World Cup has been held for several years, is almost like a second home to them - most of them have known it since they were children and have been training on it for more than a decade. Local snowboarders will also be able to avail of the national quota awarded to the event organiser that shall provide some local snowboarders, who are currently competing in lower-level competitions, with the opportunity to participate as well. More than 100 female and male snowboarders from 19 European, American and Asian countries will thus be in the running for the laurel awarded to the winner of the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Giant Slalom on Rogla.
Numerous fans - last year's event was attended by almost 3000 visitors - will also get their money's worth: not only an intense competition, but also a diverse entertainment programme in various locations. This year, they will be entertained by the Gadi Ensemble, Špela Grošelj, the drum ensemble of the Pivovarna Laško Wind Orchestra and various DJs. The sports and entertainment weekend will be kicked off a day prior to the competition. Friday, 27 January 2017 at 7 PM, at the Uniorček Ski Bar, will be marked by the official competitor start number draw, followed by the unforgettable Rogla Open Party.
Both the party and drawing of start numbers are free of charge, which means that everyone wishing to experience the electric atmosphere of an intense sports competition and the contagious joy of ski parties is more than welcome to join us.
