The company ZAK tapped the foundation stone of the new tree top trail on mountain Rogla

As all of European tree top trails bulit by ZAK, the Rogla tree top walk will be barrier-free and fully wheel chair accessible. „Tree top trail will be made up of a trail and tower. The first part of the trail will be about 560 m long and up to 20 m high. This leads to the tower, which will be 35 m high with an additional inner trail length of 440 m. A toboggan will also be included, allowing for a fun descent from the tower back to the trail and from there to the exit with a souvenir store. The location height of the Rogla tree top walk is 1500 metres above sea,” describes Bernd Bayerköhler, CEO of ZAK and author of the idea of tree top trails.

The Mayor welcomes the tree top trail project
Investment and development of tourism in region is welcomed by Boris Podvršnik, the mayor of Zreče city, which will lease the land on which the trail and tower will be located to ZAK company: “The first wooden observation tower on Rogla was built in 1934 and visitors will welcome the continuation of this tradition. Over the years we have developed skiing, a spa resort, agritourism, hiking and biking and this is a natural development in terms of sustainable tourism. The word “Rogla” in Slovenian means “forked tree-covered mountain ridge” and a tree top walk is the best way to showcase even better the beauty of this region and tourist destination Rogla-Pohorje,” he says.

The project is also supported by Unitur, which operates a tourist resort around Rogla. Barbara Soršak, Unitur Executive Director, explains why they have been supporting the project idea: “This tree top walk is a proven and successful concept in many locations, providing not only relaxation and fun, but also importantly educational elements presenting the nature of the Pohorje massif as well as local flora and fauna. This relates to our Unitur mission of bringing nature and healthy lifestyle closer. For our visitors it will be another activity for them to take part in and at the same time we will be supporting local products as well as introducing local and global environmental themes.”

Sustainability and the environment in the first place
The main pillar of ZAK's path philosophy is to open forests and nature to the public in a sustainable way, with strict compliance of the principles of environmental protection. “We always strive for the closest possible cooperation with local partners and institutions, such as national parks and protected landscape areas, municipalities and specialized organizations and associations. By every of these collaborations, we strive to strengthen the relationship of the Trail visitors to nature and their education towards environmental protection,” says Bernd Bayerköhler, Executive Director of ZAK.
